Early spring 1966. My dad and I are rigging my Sprog
Sailboat. Alongside the Sprog is “The Bote” our 24 foot Bugeye Ketch.. We launch
the boat and raised the sails. I should have sailed by the jib and let out the
main to raise it. The Sprog is a South African design. Jack Manderville made a
fleet of them to teach sailing at LBC. Sadly he died just after he retired. I
am thirteen years old, my first sailboat. We had bought the Sprog for forty dollars.
I remember this day like yesterday.
